Customer Reviews

The group of guys (and gals) I dive with recently all upgraded to Scooters. Most of them bought the SeaDoo Explorer which at the time was on average of $740 with S/H. Although that price is better than the other DPV on the market I wasn't sure I wanted to pull the trigger on something that was getting a lot of bad reviews. I want to add that three out of the four people who have bought the Explorer have had issues with their batteries. (BTW it uses the same battery as the GTI/VS Supercharged but it uses two of them in parallel with a control modual)
I finally decided to buy the VS Supercharged which ran me about $300 less, it weighs less and it uses only one 12 V battery. My only real concern was... would it have enough power to pull me, I weigh 250 without SCUBA gear on. When it arrived, I must admit I was really skeptical about it. I charged it up and immediately thought I was going to have a problem because the charger was supposed to Blink showing the battery was charged after about eight hours, but It never did. Still I took it out on a test dive.
My initial impression wasn't bad; it did have enough power to pull me. I was keeping up with the other scooters and that was without kicking. The advertised battery life is 1.5 hours but I only got 40 minutes of continuous use the first dive, how much of that was due to my drag and how much was due to a weak battery? The one thing about Lead Acid batteries is that they will get stronger after the first couple of uses (a lot like exercising). I used it and charged it two more times but still did not get any blinking lights on the charger past eight hours. I was almost convinced I needed to send it back but by the fourth time I charged it the charger would blink. I think my battery just needed some exercise.
I would like to address a few comments I've read in reviews past. Some people have made a big fuss over the access to the battery. Yes it's not as easy as the explorer but it's by no means cumbersome or a pain. Yes the method to get to the battery is a little strange, I have to pump air into a port to pop the seal and Yes the pump is a flimsy toy hand pump but IT WORKS.
Pros:
- Light Weight (23 lbs vs. the explorer 40+ lbs) /Compact
- Cheaper than the Explorer ($400 vs. $700)
- To date it's more reliable than the explorer (I don't know about the new version)
- Two "O" Rings to protect it from flooding although it is designed to survive a flooding
- Nose faring allows for the attachment of a compass if you wish
- Two Speeds
- Enough power to pull a heavy adult
Cons:
- Accessing the two speeds requires both hands on each trigger
- Not as durable as the explorer or other models
- Probably won't pull two people as well as the Explorer
- Requires a little more love and attention (But you should give that to all of your dive gear)
I liked it so much.... I bought one for my wife.

I am very happy with this item. It works just perfect. The battery does not last as long as it says but they never do. I find that it lasts about 50 minutes to 1 hour which is when it's under constant use. The battery compartment stays completely dry which is a big bonus. I am going to buy another one.
